AIKEN, S.C. – Retired 1SG James Harris Epps, age 72, husband of Reba Echols Epps of 1755 Edgefield Hwy, passed away Friday, August 3, 2012 at Sadie G. Mays Rehabilitation Center, Atlanta, GA.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 9, 2012 (Viewing from 1- 2PM) at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Douglas A. Slaughter, Pastor and Rev. Donald Brooks, officiating. Burial will follow in Jessamine Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

James served 20 years prestigiously in the United States Army earning numerous medals and honors. He retired as a First Sergeant at Fort Gordon military base. After retirement from the military, James Epps began a small business in Aiken called “Epps Mobile Lawn Mower and Small Engine Repair.” He ran his business until his health failed. He was a member of the Retired Veterans Association and the Disabled Veterans Association.

His parents, Alonzo and Nealie Epps, two sisters and seven brothers preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Reba Epps of the home; daughters, Tracy Epps-Eigner, Diane Epps-Chambers, Nelia Tolliver (SFC Quentin Tolliver), and Jamie Epps; sons, Sterling Epps, William Islar, Thomas Islar, Kevin Mathis, and Jerry Clark; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Clark and Eva M. Pringle; four brothers-in-law, James Pringle, Harry Echols, Willie Echols, and Henry Echols; two sisters-in-law, Marie Epps and Eliza Epps.

Friends may call at the residence, 1755 Edgefield Hwy, Tel # 803 648 3513 or at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home beginning 3 PM Wednesday. The Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 7-8 PM Wednesday.
