One of two men charged with a break-in at Guns and Ammo Gunsmith in North Augusta last week has been released from an Augusta hospital and extradited to South Carolina.
Franklin Robinson, 27, of Gadsden, has been jailed at the Aiken County detention center and charged with grand larceny, first degree burglary and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Robinson was denied bond and will be held at the detention center.
Investigators with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office said three men broke into the North Augusta gun shop Thursday, Aug. 9, crashing into the business with a stolen vehicle.
The men were confronted by the store's owner, Stephen Bayazes Jr., 57, who along with his wife, lives in an apartment in the rear of the business and heard the men break in. Bayazes said he awoke around 4 a.m. and opened fire on the three, killing one and injuring the two others.
K'Raven Goodwin, 20, of Eastover, died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Robinson, and Eddie Stewart, 30, of Columbia, were also shot.
Stewart remains hospitalized in Augusta.
Upon his release, he will also be extradited to South Carolina.
Aiken County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Capt. Troy Elwell said the three accused men are suspects in similar crimes across the state, but said those jurisdictions have not filed charges against the surviving men.
The men reportedly stole a van from a downtown North Augusta church and then used it to crash into the store last week.
Bayazes said he got out of bed, grabbed his AR-15 weapon and found three men inside the store, smashing display cases and taking guns.
He said he heard one of the men shout, "kill that (expletive deleted)."
Bayazes told investigators he emptied a .223-caliber 30-round magazine and then retreated to his room to reload.
When he returned, he said he saw the vehicle pulling out off the business, leaving Goodwin.
Goodwin was transported to Georgia Health Sciences University, where he was pronounced dead.
Robinson and Stewart, who were also shot, got back into the van they reportedly used to crash into the building and traveled less than five miles to a nearby Waffle House on Martintown Road, officials said.
Once there, they sought emergency help.
Investigators have still not revealed whether the men were armed when they allegedly broke into the business. All of the weapons stolen from the store have been recovered.
According to a background check run by the S.C. Sate Law Enforcement Division, both Stewart and Robinson have multiple felony arrests and convictions.
Goodwin had a previous felony arrest for burglary and grand larceny.
Bayazes does not face any charges.
