To most Strom Thurmond fans, Jauveer Hammond is not a new face. He spent last year as one of the starting cornerbacks on the Rebel defense, a unit that shut down most opponents and allowed an average of 8 points per game in the regular season. Now he's crossed to the offensive side of the ball as the Rebels' starting quarterback, but he has lots of help to get adjusted.
What is the best part about being the quarterback? "Helping the team out."
Is there anything that makes you nervous about being a quarterback? "I know people are going to talk, but as long as I do my job on the field, there isn't anything to worry about."
What will you miss about the defense? "Everything. Basically, catching picks."
What's your biggest strength as QB? "I know I can run, but I feel I can throw a little bit."
What is the biggest lesson you learned from watching Raleigh Yeldell? "Being confident in everything I do."
Two of your biggest weapons - running back Darius Hammond and wide receiver Ty Brooks - are your cousins. How does that feel? "We've been doing this since we were younger. We've always been on a team, so it isn't any different."
