NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Police believe an elderly man who led them on a low-speed chase in western Pennsylvania may have been suffering from dementia.
The Beaver County Times (http://bit.ly/LL3C0f ) reports Monday that three departments in Lawrence County gave chase after the man was seen driving erratically about 10 p.m. last Thursday on Route 224.
Police say the man drove about 35 mph the entire time, but wouldn't stop even after he crossed the center line of the highway and drove against oncoming traffic several times. Police say the man kept driving after stop sticks flattened his tires and that he eventually crashed into a Shenango Township police cruiser.
Police say the man appeared to be disoriented and suffering from dementia. They're not identifying him while the investigation continues, but say he wasn't from the area where he was stopped.
