Conway woman agrees to allow seized dogs to be adopted

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A Conway woman has dropped her request to have nearly 150 dogs seized from her property returned to her.

Multiple media outlets report Renee James' decision to drop the request will allow for the adoption of some of the dogs.

Defense attorney James Dotson says James decided to drop her request to keep the dogs shortly before a hearing Wednesday.

James owns Pet Safari pet store in Conway and says her business has been hurt by the seizure of the dogs last week.

She says Horry County officials did not want to work with her to get the dogs returned. She says she wants what is best for the animals.

Kelley Bonome says some of the dogs are ready for adoption at the Horry County Animal Care Center.

Citadel says freshman fullback needed surgery after collapse

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Citadel freshman fullback DaSean Daniels needed emergency surgery after collapsing during practice Tuesday.

The school said in a statement that Daniels required the operation to relieve pressure on his skull. The school said Daniels is "progressing well" in the intensive care unit at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Daniels, from Lawrenceville, Georgia, collapsed on the field between plays as the team practiced.

Citadel President John W. Rosa said the school will make sure Daniels and his family are fully supported during this period.

Daniels, 5-foot-10 and 220 pounds, came to Citadel last fall as a linebacker, but was moved to fullback this spring.

Search on for owner of Hilton Head Island nightclub

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — The Coast Guard and local law enforcement agencies are searching for the owner of a popular Hilton Head Island nightclub after the man's car was found abandoned on a bridge.

Authorities tell local news outlets the minivan owned by Bob Masteller, who owns the Jazz Corner in Wexford Village, was found early Tuesday. He was last seen by his wife in the couple's Sea Pines home Monday night.

Coast Guard boats and a helicopter searched all day Tuesday with the search set to resume Wednesday.

Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies and officers from the state Department of Natural Resources are also searching.

Down Beat magazine has named Masteller's club to its list of the 100 best jazz rooms in the country for the past five years.
