Kenneth Shuler North Augusta is out to prove it's the best of the Shuler schools.

During the Best of Shuler Schools - or B.O.S.S. competition - the school competed against the other schools in the state to prove it has the most talent.

"This is our day to compete. All of the other schools have done their competition, but we don't know what they've done yet," said Julie Swearingen, of Kenneth Shuler North Augusta, on March 4. "On the 16th, the winners of each competition will go to Columbia to compete, and the winning school will get the traveling trophy."

The competition tested the skills of the cosmetology students with entries in hair and nails falling under the Mardi Gras theme.

"Mr. Shuler loves to compete and bring out the creativity in the students," Swearingen said. "It's a chance for them to showcase their love for the industry and to show what they can do. It's a fun competition. Skill-wise, it shows what they've learned and what they can do in the industry."

The entries in the competition included bridal hair, hair braiding and nails, which were done in advance. Performed live in the school were the female cutting, male shaping and fantastic competitions.
