The 16th annual spring herb festival is slated for this weekend, and organizers are expecting a variety of local and distant artists to share their work in Barnwell.

The event will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Little Red Barn, 12080 Highway 278 in Barnwell. Elizabeth Ringus, the owner or Red Barn Gallery, said the event will feature local authors and artists demonstrating sweetgrass baskets, Mennonite herbal products and garden herb plants for purchase.

Ringus added that with the high interest in backyard beekeeping, Allen Johnson from Trinker Creek Honey House will also be in attendance to give a demonstration.

But Saturday's festival won't be limited to just artistic fun. Ringus said the Animal Advocates of Barnwell County will be on hand and will have pets eligible for adoption for patrons.

Ringus said the event started 16 years with the Barnwell County Herb Club. The club has somewhat let go of the event, but Ringus said she enjoys still being able to provide the festival for Barnwell.

"Our mission at the gallery is to support local artists and give back to the community," she said. "We'll have a variety of things, so we look forward to everyone coming out and supporting us."
