Pacers tied for 7th after 1st round of The Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND - The nationally fifth-ranked USC Aiken men's golf team was tied for seventh after the first round of play at The Invitational at the par-72, 7,344-yard Ocean Course, according to a press release from USCA's sports information department.

The tournament, hosted by the College of Charleston, is being held at the site of the 2012 PGA Championship.

USCA carded a team score of 307 in round one. Georgia Southern and Stephen F. Austin both carded team scores of 307, as well, in the first round.

Four Pacers were in the top-50 individually after the first round.

USCA was led in the first round by JP Solis and Hayden Letien. The duo both carded 76s in the first round of play to sit tied for 21st.

Matt Atkins closed out the first round with a 77. The 2012 First-Team All-American was tied for 28th heading into the second round.

Andrew Ward was the final Pacer in the top-50. The sophomore posted a 78 in round one. He was tied for 37th.

Defending tournament champion Florida was the team leader after the first round of action. The Gators carded a team score of 289 in the first round.

Houston's Curtis Reed enters the second round in first individually after carding a 1-under 71 in the first round.

The second round of The Invitational at the Ocean Course is set to get under way at 8 a.m. today.
