Aiken County deputies are searching for a man who was seen fleeing a burning structure in Warrenville on Monday morning.
Fire crews responded to the blaze on Augusta Road near Hillman Street about 7:30 a.m.
The fire is still under investigation but it has been deemed an arson, said Aiken County Sheriff's Office Capt. Eric Abdullah.
Witnesses told investigators a person was seen running from the back of a house, and a perimeter was set up in efforts to locate him, police said.
The home was not occupied and was under renovation at the time of the fire, Abdullah said.
The suspect was described as a white male wearing dark clothing and a hat.
No injuries were reported.
