COASTAL CAROLINA 47, FURMAN 45, 3 OT

GREENVILLE (AP) - DeMario Bennett caught a 26-yard touchdown pass in the third overtime and then scored on the mandatory two-point conversion try on a reverse to give Coastal Carolina a 47-45 victory against Furman on Saturday night.

Coastal Carolina (2-0) scored first in the third overtime on a 26-yard pass from Strom Thrumond alum Aramis Hillary to Bennett. Hank McCloud scored on a 3-yard run for Furman (0-2), but the two-point try failed.

Hillary was 20-for-27 passing for two touchdowns and ran for a score, and Matt Hazel, a North Augusta graduate, caught seven passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.

The Paladins' Reese Hannon threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns. Furman scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take 25-22 lead, but the Chanticleers' Alex Catron kicked a 45-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to tie the game at 25.

JACKSONVILLE 31, CSU 10

CHARLESTON (AP) - Jordan Dewhirst scored two touchdowns and Jacksonville scored 28 points in the second half to take down Charleston Southern 31-10

Jacksonville (1-1) jumped ahead 10-0 when Dewhirst returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter.

Charleston Southern (0-2) cut the deficit to 24-10 late in the fourth quarter behind a 17-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Derek Hatcher. However, Dewhirst returned the ensuing onside kick 44 yards for a touchdown to put the game away.

The Dolphins defense stifled Charleston Southern all afternoon, recording four sacks, five quarterback hurries, 12 tackles for loss and an interception.

The loss marked Charleston Southern's 14th straight loss dating back to last season.

Nathan Perera led Charleston Southern with 134 yards on 10 catches, but the Bucs struggled to move the ball on the ground (2.2 yards per carry) and only converted 5 of 17 third-down attempts.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN 27, S.C. STATE 14

ORANGEBURG (AP) - Isidore Jackson ran for 88 yards and one touchdown to help Bethune-Cookman beat Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rival South Carolina State 27-14.

South Carolina State (1-1) scored the only points of the first quarter. Asheton Jordan's 5-yard run and Jalen Simmons' run from 3-yards out gave the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.

The Wildcats (2-0) got on the board in the second quarter with a fumble recovery in the end zone by Tyrone Bouie. Jackson then ran it in from four yards to tie the game at 14. Sven Hurd added a field goal to make the halftime lead 17-14.

The Wildcats' defense took over, shutting down South Carolina State the rest of the way as Bethune-Cookman scored 27 unanswered points.

Rodney Scott's 3-yard touchdown run was the lone score of the fourth quarter.

This marked the 50th meeting between the teams with South Carolina State leading the series 31-18-1.

THE CITADEL 23, FURMAN 21

CHARLESTON (AP) - The Citadel's Thomas Warren kicked the game-winning field from 37 yards with 35 seconds left to edge Georgia Southern 23-21 on Saturday night.
