A new landmark rises above the Valley
GRANITEVILLE - Megiddo Dream Station's 92-foot-tall cross is standing high above the Horse Creek Valley after being erected Friday near the William Gregg monument in the back of the historic Graniteville Cemetery.
Headrick Signs & Graphics, which is based in Laurel, Mississippi, made the huge symbol of Christianity out of plate steel and steel angle.

Aiken Republican Club to host Texas Sen. Ted Cruz
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who recently announced that he's running for president in 2016, will be in Aiken in April.
Cruz will speak at the next Aiken Republican Club meeting April 4.
Cruz launched his presidential bid Monday at Liberty University, a Christian institution, in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Langley Dam update: Siphons installed, investigations to begin mid-May
Aiken County officials hope to lower the Langley Pond's water level by mid-May to begin additional investigations into what caused the dam to leak.
Visitors still can't get to the dam or walk to the edge of Langley Pond because the area is considered a construction site. County Administrator Clay Killian said crews are still installing the permanent siphons into the dam, which will allow the water level to decrease enough to fix the problem. Valves were placed on top of each siphon so crews can lower the water's level without having to open the more than 100-year-old gates.

Harness racing enjoyed a revival in Aiken on Saturday after an absence of more than a decade.
The sport wasn't part of the Aiken Triple Crown like it used to be, but that didn't seem to matter to the hundreds of people who turned out on a sunny afternoon to picnic and watch the trotters and pacers compete in the McGhees' Mile Standardbred Races.

Thousands celebrate Easter at Great Aiken Egg Hunt
Eight-month-old Wyatt Ward celebrated his first Easter Saturday morning at the Great Aiken Egg Hunt, but he seemed more interested in putting the colorful plastic eggs in his mouth than in his basket.
Wyatt was on of more than 3,000 children who flooded the football field at Aiken High's Hagood Stadium for the second, communitywide event sponsored by Cedar Creek Church. In addition to hunting eggs, children played carnival games with Easter themes, romped in a bouncy house and other inflatables and munched on popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy.
