Barnwell County was rattled by a minor earthquake early Monday morning.
The earthquake occurred at 2:19 a.m. and had a recorded magnitude of 2.3, according to the U.S. Geological Survey report. The quake's location was about 4 miles west of Blackville, which is a little less than 30 miles southeast of Aiken.
No injuries or damage to infrastructure or buildings were reported.
Another weak earthquake was reported Sept. 19, which had a magnitude of 2.6. That quake's epicenter was reported 3 miles west of New Ellenton and 9 miles south of Aiken.
On Valentine's Day 2014, an earthquake that originated in Edgefield was felt across Aiken County. It was a 4.1 magnitude, which was the strongest one the state had experienced since 2011, when a magnitude 4.4 earthquake with an epicenter near Charleston stuck in November.
The largest quake in South Carolina was in Charleston in 1886, which measured a 7.3.
South Carolina normally experiences 15 to 20 earthquakes per year.
