A chase that started overnight on Edgefield Road ended in a crash in Augusta.

Christina Sharpe, 26, from North Augusta, was stopped because her Tahoe's right taillight was out. She was traveling south on Edgefield Road near Interstate-520, and the officer initiated a stop near Clearmont Drive. The vehicle continued straight, picking up speed and passing multiple places to stop.

The officer called dispatch and said the vehicle sped up and continued south before taking a left onto Belvedere Clearwater Road. The vehicle took the ramp to get on I-520 toward Augusta. The Tahoe's speed went up to 90-95 MPH and continued until reaching Exit 17, where it took a right toward US 1 and the off ramp.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle with stop sticks, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle continued as it approached Walton Way and was picked up by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office before the 10.3 mile pursuit ended when Sharpe wrecked by striking another vehicle.

Sharpe had two small children, a 6-month-old and a 5-year-old. She had minor injuries and all of the children suffered no injuries. The driver of the vehicle she struck suffered multiple injuries, but none were life threatening. She has been charged with failure to stop for blue lights, child endangerment and driving under suspension.
