David Fallaw, the current chief financial officer for the Edgefield County School District, has been appointed to be an assistant superintendent, effective July 1.
Fallaw will take the place of Donna Strom, who will retire at the end of this fiscal year in June.
For 14 years, Fallaw has worked for the district as a teacher, assistant principal and in his current position.
In spring 2006, Fallaw was named one of 14 "Emerging Educational Leaders" worldwide by the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.
He also was named a Teacher of the Year twice when he taught at Merriwether Middle School.
"I believe the experience I have gained over the years by serving the district in different capacities will enable me to better understand the concerns of our employees as well as our parents," Fallaw said.
Edgefield County School District Superintendent Greg Anderson said Fallaw will bring a "wealth of experience" to his new position.
"His background will allow Mr. Fallaw to relate to all of our employees and gives him a strong understanding of all areas of education," Anderson said. "He will continue with our philosophy of putting students first at all times and work toward our goal of providing a positive and professional atmosphere for our employees. Most importantly, Mr. Fallaw has a genuine concern for our students and goes the extra mile to make sure they are receiving the best education possible."
Fallaw earned a bachelor of science in business administration with a finance concentration.
He also holds a bachelor of arts in secondary administration and a master of education in administration and supervision. He is certified in middle-level social studies, elementary and secondary principal and elementary and secondary supervisor.
