An Aiken child is dead after drowning Saturday.
Michael Melton Jr., 3, was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday at Aiken Regional Medical Center, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. There is no evidence of foul play or trauma to the child, Carlton added.
The incident occurred about 7 p.m. when the child was at a relative's home on Woodland Drive. The child was outside playing with other family members when he managed to crawled under a fence surrounding a pool at the home, according to family members.
The child, who family members described as "a non-swimmer," then entered the pool.
An autopsy, which is mandated by state law, is scheduled for Monday.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is handling the case.
