A Graniteville woman reported Friday that an argument over food stamps resulted in her being assaulted by multiple people, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened about 11 p.m. on Seastrunk Street, according to a sheriff's report. The 34-year-old victim told officers she and a woman were arguing over reportedly stolen food stamps when the suspect began striking her in the head with a closed fist.

The victim said three unknown men then became involved by holding her down while the female suspect assaulted her, police said. Officers saw that the victim had lacerations and bleeding from her nose and ear.

The victim's husband witnessed the incident and corroborated her story, police said. He said the altercation ended when a witness presented a firearm.

Two witnesses officers spoke with denied owning or presenting a gun, the report states. The victim and witnesses could not provide information about the unknown suspects and could only provide limited information about the female suspect, who was identified in the report.

No charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation.
