Aiken Public Safety officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Whiskey Road Wal-Mart on Monday morning.
The officers arrived to find that loss-prevention employees had two people, Emmanuel McNeal, 20, and Austin Williams, 19, in custody, according the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
One loss-prevention officer said she saw McNeal pick up several items, carry them to the men's section and put them in shopping bags, police said. He then tried to exit the store without paying for them, the officer said. The officer confronted McNeal and Williams, whom he'd met in the front of the store, and escorted them to the loss-prevention office, according to reports.
McNeal had 19 items in his possession, including condoms, cereal, cookies, snacks, shrimp, meat, milk and bread.
Public Safety officers put the men in investigative detention while the video surveillance was reviewed, according to the police report.
Williams was then released and left Wal-Mart, but McNeal was charged with that incident, in addition to a previous shoplifting on March 26, in which he was seen on video shoplifting three PlayStation 3 controllers, according to the police report.
McNeal was charged with two counts of shoplifting less than $2,000 placed on trespass notice from both Aiken Wal-Marts, police said. He was taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he remained Monday afternoon.
