Welcome spring back to Aiken during the eighth annual Kite Festival on Saturday, April 18.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., families are invited to the Citizens Park field three, 1060 Banks Mill Road, to sit down, have a picnic and enjoy flying some kites during National Kite Month, said Adea Jackson, the City's Recreation Program coordinator.

The event, held by the City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, will offer something for every one of all ages.

Once again, kite-flying demonstrations will be presented by the Suburban Atlanta Kite Enthusiasts, as will inflatables, the 50-yard kite dash, sponsored by the Select Health of South Carolina, food vendors and entertainment.

Families can either bring their own kites or purchase kites onsite. A variety of live performances will take place on stage during the festival, with an appearance by the Southland Express Cloggers.

Jackson said the City will offer new inflatables, which includes a clear "hamster ball-like" inflatable for people to get inside and run around in. Activities will also include a climbing rock-wall and a ride on a trackless train, which individuals must purchase a ticket or an armband to participate.

Amusement wristbands will cost $10, or people can purchase five tickets for $5.

The City of Aiken thanks this year's partner, the Suburban Atlanta Kite Enthusiasts, and its sponsors - the Lobster Race, Access Chiropractic and Wellness, Select Healthof South Carolina, Super Top Bouncers and Carolina Pay Day Loan.
