A Graniteville teenager may be charged after throwing a water balloon from a bus traveling down Columbia Highway, shattering a mirror on another vehicle and causing minor injuries to the driver, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened about 5:15 p.m. on Columbia Highway near Cumbee Trail Road, according to a sheriff's report.

The victim, a driver for UPS who was driving a delivery truck, said an item came out of a window on the bus and struck her driver's side mirror, causing the mirror to shatter and the glass to hit her in the face.

Batesburg police located the bus and stopped it until an Aiken County deputy arrived.

The driver asked who threw the item from the bus, and an 18-year-old said he threw a water balloon from the bus.

The suspect said he threw it "not knowing it was going to cause harm to the driver and damage the truck," the report states.

The driver of the truck said she was going to urgent care to get checked out.

Officers will apply for arrest warrants for the teen on charges of malicious injury to personal property and littering on a public roadway.

The report does not indicate what kind of bus was involved.
