Two people are dead after separate wrecks that occurred in Aiken and Barnwell counties Friday.
Willie Williamson, 22, of 136 Cherry Road in Barnwell, was killed in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 37 near Elko, according to the Barnwell County Coroner Lloyd Ward.
Ward said Williamson was traveling north when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree on the southbound side of the road. The vehicle then caught fire.
Williamson was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second crash occurred in North Augusta on Cherokee Drive near Sunfest Drive about 4:15 a.m. Friday, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
The Coroner's Office is in the process of identifying the deceased and has not yet released the name of the victim.
In the North Augusta wreck, the driver of a 1988 Ford F150 truck was traveling east on Cherokee Drive when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, which caused the vehicle to catch fire, Carlton said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is assisting both coroner's offices with each investigation.
