A group that oversees the Savannah River Site's Citizens Advisory Board and similar boards in the DOE complex will discuss the site's liquid-waste missions and give the public an opportunity to comment.

The Environmental Management Site-Specific Advisory Board will meet Wednesday and Thursday at the Doubletree, 2651 Perimeter Parkway, in Augusta.

Wednesday's meeting will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Thursday's meeting will be 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Day one will include an environmental-management-program update and an update on the program's budget and a roundtable discussion on the best budget practices.

A public comment period is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday but could change depending on the flow of the meeting.

Day 2 will include an update on recovery efforts at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, or WIPP.

The plant is in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and took in shipments of transuranic waste from SRS and other sites until a February 2014 incident shut down operations.

The incident resulted in a contamination, causing 22 workers to suffer exposure, and now shipments are delayed until next year at the earliest. Day two also will include a safety culture overview and another public comment period scheduled for 11 a.m.

The public comment times could depending on the flow of the meeting.

The full agenda can be found at http://1.usa.gov/1bgGz0j.

The Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board was formed in 1994 and is one of eight Environmental Management Site-Specific Advisory Boards funded by DOE.
