SOUTH AIKEN 3, NORTH AUGUSTA 0

South Aiken's girl's volleyball team never gave up. Even after North Augusta jumped out to an early lead in the first game, they battled back, chipping away point after point.

That set the tone for the rest of the match, where the T-Breds (6-1) defeated the Yellow Jackets (8-4) in a sweep 25-23, 25-21 and 25-17.

"They worked together, picked each other up and never gave up," South Aiken coach Teresa Carter. "They counted out each point and didn't give in even when they were down six in that second game. It was just a very good team effort."

South Aiken was led by Bailey Parker, who stuffed the stat sheet with nine kills, six aces and seven digs.

"Bailey is the definition of an all-around player," Carter said. "And I have to say I'm pretty lucky that's she's only a junior."

The T-Breds also received seven kills and nine digs from Cat Luther, four blocks from Elizabeth Butler and three blocks from Jessica Murphy. Katlyn Serago also added 16 assists.

The Yellow Jackets were put in an early hole when they let the T-Breds come back and even get as far ahead as five in the first game. They fought their way back to eventually force a tie before South Aiken put it away.

"We've had a really long weekend," North Augusta coach Lindsay Tucker said. "We all have had a lot going on and we just didn't play as well as we could have."

The Yellow Jackets were visibly frustrated during the match. It boiled over during the second game where they South Aiken chip away and come back to tie at 19 after and go ahead for good in the next point.

"We weren't playing together like we can," Tucker said. "We got a little frustrated and then we just got down on ourselves."

The third match was a lopsided affair, with the T-Breds pulling out to an early 12-5 lead.

The Lady Yellow Jackets eventually worked their way back to within four, but the deficit was too large to overcome and South Aiken shut the door after North Augusta rallied for three straight points.

The Yellow Jackets had some strong performances in the loss, including Ashton Norris who had 19 assists, Gracie Bryant who had 8 kills, Ashley Townsend who had 11 kills and Raynee Spires who had 13 digs.

South Aiken will be in action once again on Thursday when they head to White Knoll. North Augusta's next game will also be on the road at Grovetown tonight.
