The Spring Herb Faire at Pascalina Farms in Montmorenci will return Saturday after being called off last year in the wake of the big February ice storm.

"We still had tree limbs hanging down, so we canceled it for safety reasons," said Linda Oswald, who owns Pascalina with her parents, Earl and Jackie Heath.

The hours of the Herb Faire are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Twenty-nine vendors will be selling gourds, goat cheese, goat's milk soap, pottery, refurbished antique cast-iron cookware and other items.

"We have a glass artist, a felter and a pen-and-ink sketch artist who are new," Oswald said. "We'll also have someone back this year selling strawberries."

Pascalina will be offering herbs and a sampling of its spring crops, including kale and snow peas.

"Small family farms are making a comeback today with more people wanting to know where their food comes from and who is growing it," Oswald said. "I think you could talk to any small farmer today and come away realizing that the majority of us do it because it is in our blood and because we love it. We can share all that with the community for the day at the Herb Faire."

Spring Herb Faire attendees also are able to "enjoy the creative work of the vendors who take part in this with us," Oswald added.

Oswald's brother, Mike Heath, started Pascalina Harvest Products, which is a wholesale operation, this year, and it is based on property adjacent to Pascalina Farms.

Beginning May 9, Pascalina will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sell fresh vegetables to the public. In June, the farm will be open Monday through Saturday.

Pascalina is at 3250 Charleston Highway.
