CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — There's bad news and good news when it comes to gas prices in the Carolinas.
AAA Carolinas reports motorists in both states are now paying the highest amount they have paid all year.
The good news is that, despite the increase, fuel prices are still well below a year ago.
The motor club reported Friday the average price for a gallon in North Carolina is about $2.45, up 16 cents from a month ago.
In South Carolina its $2.32 a gallon, an increase of 22 cents from April 1.
Still, the price per gallon in North Carolina is $1.21 less than last year at this time while in South Carolina it is $1.18 less.
The increase during the past month is attributed to rising costs of crude oil.
