4 people arrested after protesters block Charleston bridge

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A group of protesters chanting "black lives matter" blocked the Ravenel Bridge in Charleston during rush hour, leading to four arrests.

Police responded to the demonstration Wednesday after more than a dozen people piled out of cars during rush hour traffic and began chanting and passing out fliers. Some held a banner reading "#BlackSpring."

Shortly after, police officers swarmed the area and ordered protesters off the bridge. A police spokesman said four females were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when they didn't disperse.

A spokeswoman said demonstrators wanted to call attention to police brutality and violence and to repeat their demand for a citizen review board for officer misconduct in the wake of Walter Scott's shooting death in North Charleston on April 4.
