BURNETTOWN — Souped-up old and new cars were on display not just to gain looks Saturday at Langley Pond Park, but also to support a good cause.

Area Churches Together Serving, or ACTS, held their first car show not only designed to get the word out about ACTS, but also to "get the word out about hunger in our community," said Mark Sapp an ACTS board members.

"Every dollar raised (Saturday) buys $4 worth of food and everything that's raised goes strictly to that purpose of buying food to help the needy in our community," Sapp said.

Just within 2014, ACTS conducted more than 4,000 interviews with individuals to determine their need and assisted more than 5,000 of Aiken's elderly residents in need. Many of those assisted received medical assistance, food, utility assistance and clothing.

"When most people think about people needing help, you know if you don't see people out or around, you kind of get that out of sight, out of mind," Sapp said. "It is something we need to talk about and it's people in our community that really need the help, and that's why ACTS was designed to help the people that are in need in our community and I think our organization does a really good job of that."

Siblings Tyler and Destiny Perkins and Rebecca Price checked out the cars on display Saturday, cars including Bob Pedley's SC Cobra.

"I like going to car shows a lot," Tyler said. "My favorite part is when they race, but I like these shows too. I want to have a car like this one day."

"We came here today to just look at the old cars and their engines," Price said. "Those engines are pretty cool."

And that, Sapp said, is what Saturday's event was all about.

"It's just a great day that we can all come together during nice weather down here in Langley Pond Park and show off some cars and have some fun," Sapp said.

Sapp thanked Bob Richards Automotive, Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Auto Tech Automotive for their support of Saturday's event.
