A man was charged with methamphetamine possession and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance after a traffic stop Friday.

The stop occurred on Pine Log Road when Aiken Department of Public Safety officers ran the license plate of a vehicle, which was expired, according to reports.

After stopping the vehicle at the Bi-Lo parking lot, the driver exited.

The driver identified himself as Henry Mayson. After being hand-cuffed, Mayson admitted that he did not have a license and that it was suspended, according to reports.

Mayson also admitted that he was the owner of the vehicle and did not have insurance, police said.

Mayson was asked for consent to search the vehicle. He did not say no, but did ask why the vehicle needed to be searched, according to the report.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a black, zip-up bag sitting on the passenger seat. Inside, officers found a yellow, clear plastic bag, a white, clear plastic bag and a clear, plastic bag with green alien heads on it. Officers found the baggies contained a clear, crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, police said.

After being read his Miranda rights, Mayson stated that the crystal substance was meth, police said.

A test kit was run for the crystal substance and tested positive for methamphetamine.

Mayson was placed into the Aiken County detention center.
