Relay For Life of Aiken's purpose is to raise money for the American Cancer Society, and Lisa Glass is hoping that a big crowd turns out to support its main event for 2015 at the South Aiken High School football stadium at 232 E. Pine Log Road.
The opening ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Friday, and the closing ceremony will take place at 1 a.m. Saturday.
"We will have lots of activities, lots of food and lots of fun," said Glass, who is Relay For Life's community manager for the South Atlantic Division. "It's a great way to spend an evening and help fight cancer at the same time. Bring your family, bring your friends and enjoy."
There will be a fire truck pull at 8 p.m. Also scheduled are a beauty pageant for men dressed as women, which is called Mizz Relay, at 8:30 p.m.; a lip-sync contest at 9 p.m. and the Midnight Madness 5K Fun Run and Walk at 11:45 p.m.
The Survivors Lap will be at 7:30 p.m., and the Caregivers Lap will follow it. The Luminaria Ceremony will be at 10 p.m.
Approximately 50 Relay For Life teams will be participating, and the goal is to raise $150,000.
People who aren't involved in Relay For Life as team members, cancer survivors or caregivers, must show photo IDs to be admitted to the stadium if they are adults or high school students. Middle school students and other youngsters must be with their parents or guardians.
Wristbands will be issued.
