The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is looking for volunteers to become docents at the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Training sessions will be 9:30 a.m. to noon June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21, Oct. 19 and Nov. 16.
The first part of each session will focus on customer service, and the second part will focus on the history of the Hall of Fame, museum duties and other topics.
The Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates Aiken's contributions to Thoroughbred racing. Anyone wishing to become a docent should have a passion for history and/or equestrian pursuits.
Docents have a number of responsibilities, including opening and closing the Hall of Fame, greeting visitors and providing information about the exhibits and the museum.
Docents can work as few or as many shifts as they desire and shifts are between 3½ to 4 hours long. Some City of Aiken residents can qualify for the Senior Citizens Tax Work-Off Program.
For more information, contact the Hall of Fame and Museum at 803-643-2121 or email halloffame@cityofaik ensc.gov.
