North Augusta man injured in fire caused by torch



A North Augusta man was injured in a house fire Monday night when a torch blew up while he was doing home repairs.

Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Stevie Seymour Street at 6:15 p.m. when a caller reported an unknown white vehicle in the driveway next to her residence before a fire started, police said.

The caller said she heard a scream, and the vehicle was gone, according to reports.

Officers were able to contact the homeowner, who said the vehicle belonged to his friend who was at the residence at the time, police said.

Dispatch advised officers a man was at Georgia Regency University in Augusta who stated he was trying to fix a water leak with a torch when the torch "blew up and burnt him up," according to reports.
