Cell towers on agenda for Aiken County Planning Commission

Aiken County Planning Commission will decide Thursday whether to approve four separate cell towers in Aiken County, with three of those towers to be located in Graniteville.

The 6 p.m. meeting is open to the public, and will be held in the Sandlapper Room on the first floor of the Aiken County Government Center, 1930 University Parkway.

Applicant XCell Towers II LLC is proposing two cell towers in Council District 6 - one on Old Graniteville Highway and the second on Ergle Street in Graniteville. Verizon Wireless applied for the third tower on Jasmine Drive in Graniteville. Council member Phil Napier represents District 6.

The fourth cell tower is proposed to be constructed on Crystal Springs Road in Graniteville in District 3. Verizon Wireless is the tower's applicant, and Council member LaWana McKenzie represents that district.

In other business, Planning Commission will decide whether to change Hall Hill Road to Chevy Lane in Council District 8. Council member Willar Hightower represents that district.

The Planning Commission will also discuss updates to the Aiken County Comprehensive Plan 2014 through 2024
