COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- House and Senate members are nearing a compromise to require government bodies in South Carolina to publish agendas before public meetings.
The conference committee agreed Wednesday to require a two-thirds vote to alter an agenda within 24 hours of a meeting. The public body would also have to agree it was an emergency situation if they could make a final decision on the agenda item. The committee will meet again to review the compromise. The entire House and Senate will have to approve.
The bill was needed after the state Supreme Court ruled last year agendas weren't required.
Other bills making autopsy reports public records and clarifying how quickly governments must respond to public records requests and preventing them from charging excessive fees are stuck.
