Freddie Grimm, of North Augusta, has been named to a state parent advisory council by State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman.
Grimm has had three children go through the public schools and is the president of the North Augusta School Improvement Council.
The panel's intent is to provide feedback from parents' perspectives on education in South Carolina's classroom, a State Department of Education spokesman said.
"Parents see firsthand the success and challenges students face in and out of the classroom," said Spearman.
"They have a lot of great ideas and viewpoints on changing our schools for the better," she said. "I am excited to work alongside parents across South Carolina to improve education for all students in our state."
