Couple accused of stealing $19,000 form elderly man

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — A Hilton Head Island couple is accused of cashing over $19,000 worth of forged checks from an elderly man they were caring for.

The Hilton Head Island Packet reports Tamicha McKinnon and Kenneth Mitchell were employed as caregivers for 80-year-old Capt. Bob Bromage. Police say the two forged 22 checks from Bromage from October 2014 to January. A family member discovered the checks after looking at the man's account activity and contacted authorities.

Police charged McKinnon with three counts of financial transaction fraud, forgery and exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Mitchell was charged with forgery and one count of financial transaction fraud. Both were arrested Tuesday night and are being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.

It is unclear if McKinnon or Mitchell has a lawyer.

Man accused of kidnapping woman, holding her captive

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A Greenville man is accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her captive for days while she was beaten and assaulted.

The Greenville News reports 32-year-old James Cyle Medlin was arrested and booked into the Greenville County Detention Center earlier this week. Police warrants say Medlin held the victim against her will for several days and brutally assaulted her in such a manner where the victim's life was in imminent peril.

The warrants say Medlin and the victim used to live together. The victim was eventually able to escape and told authorities Medlin had threatened to hurt everyone she lived with if she didn't do as she was told.

Police charged Medlin with kidnapping, attempted murder and criminal sexual conduct. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.

SLED investigating EMS in Williamston EMS

WILLIAMSTON, S.C. (AP) — Anderson County officials say the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the Williamston Emergency Medical Service.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reports that officials said SLED is looking into allegations of financial mismanagement.

County council was expected to meet with a private paramedic company to provide service in Williamston while the local EMS operation is investigated.

Williamston EMS Chief Joe Barr resigned earlier this month after holding the position for more than 10 years. Barr says he cannot talk about the allegations.

Interim EMS chief Leah Davis says administrators have asked for an audit of the agency.
