Aiken will salute its veterans and fallen heros at the annual Memorial Day Parade today.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Park Avenue and continue down Laurens Street.
Aiken native Dr. Irene Trowell-Harris, the former director of the Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Women Veterans and a retired major general in the Air Force and Air National Guard, will lead this year's parade as grand marshal.
The parade will honor all veterans, but especially Vietnam veterans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
This year's theme is A Grateful Aiken County Thanks and Honors You.
Tony Baughman, also known as Tony B, the program director for WKSX-FM 92.7, will do a remote broadcast from the parade from 9 a.m. to noon.
The parade's sponsors are A is for Advertising, Aiken County Veterans Council, Aiken Standard, Centerra, Security Federal Bank, WFXG-TV Fox54 and WKSX-FM 92.7.
