Aiken actor Bo Mitchell, 20, wasn't even a year old when his career began.

Since the day he was discovered in a Charlotte, North Carolina, mall at 9 months old, Mitchell has landed spots on TV shows, movies and owns the local HIC Warehouse Indoor Skateboard Park, 1120 Edgefield Highway.

Since 2012, the up-and-coming actor has worked alongside an industry professional - James Franco.

Franco is a film powerhouse, doing everything from acting, producing, writing, directing and editing to teaching film at New York University and University of California - Los Angeles.

The project Mitchell was approached about was the Gia Coppola independent movie "Palo Alto," which starred Franco, Val Kilmer and Emma Roberts and is based on Franco's "Palo Alto Stories" book.

"I was excited to work with James," Mitchell said. "He's just full of experience, and you can see it in the little things (he does)."

Mitchell's mother, Robin Mitchell, who helps her son run HIC Warehouse, believes it was Mitchell's role in HBO's "Eastbound & Down" TV show that caught Franco's attention.

The show, which starred Danny McBride as Kenny Powers, ran from 2009-13 and featured Bo Mitchell as Wayne, Powers' nephew.

"Palo Alto" premiered in 2013, and has played at film festivals around the world.

"It was a great movie to work on," Bo Mitchell said. "I got to meet a lot of cool, up-and-coming actors."

Since then, Mitchell and Franco have worked on several projects, such as 2014's "Memoria" and "The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards."

When his schedule allows it, usually around holidays, Mitchell, who lives in California, comes by to visit his family in Aiken and stop by the skateboard park.

The last time he spent time in Aiken was earlier this month, when he was on his way to Ohio.

During that time, he worked and caught up with some rising skaters, such as Kolton Bird, who frequents the park.

Mitchell is at work on his latest project, "The Long Home," which is directed by Franco and stars Josh Hutcherson and Courtney Love, among others.

Even when Mitchell isn't in town, his celebrity friends still sometimes pop in to use the skate park. A few days ago, rapper Lil Wayne came through.

"You never know who will show up at HIC Warehouse," Robin Mitchell said, who added that the park is looking to expand.
