Showing off

The County needs to sell the Government Center. We don't need a building larger than the state capitol. Aiken's just trying to show off.

Nicest people

Mayor Cavanaugh is retiring and all these people who didn't like him are coming out. I thought he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. You didn't see him sitting at a desk all the time. If you had a question, he would always give a truthful answer and that means an awful lot.

Not right

I don't think the average income in Aiken is $53,000. Lots of us are on Social Security. We can now look forward to the governments implementing more taxes. They don't consider that some of us have mortgages, medications that are expensive, insurance covers nothing. Something's not right.

Extra revenue

The people complaining about the hospitality tax don't complain about it when you go to Charleston or anywhere else. Get real. It's time we do something like that. It will bring in extra revenue.

No benefits

I haven't seen any benefits from the taxes that are being collected. Some people can't afford their Aiken taxes.

Bad-mouthing

Everyone is bad-mouthing Fred Cavanaugh after he has worked so very hard for Aiken. If you think you can do better, stand up and run.

Quiet place

Why does Aiken have to keep growing? We don't want to become Augusta. Lots of us moved here because it's a nice, quiet place to live.

Eating out

I plan to vote my conscience every November and I won't be eating out in Aiken anytime soon. I hope they collect a bunch of revenue.

At it again

Well, the politicians are at it again. Between the City and the County, they have the voters approve a school tax of 1 percent. But then, the City needs a 1 percent hospitality tax. And now the County wants to raise the property tax. They had this planned from the beginning. They're just raking the people again.

Property taxes

We were told property taxes wouldn't increase if we voted for the 1 percent sales tax. Now they are wanting to go up on the property taxes. We need to do away with the castle and the king and the council members who bow to the administrator and gives him everything he wants. We need councilmen who will fight back on the increase.
