Reckless homicide, impersonating police & teens with stolen guns: News around the state on May 27

Man pleads guilty in crash that killed his daughter

GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — A Spartanburg man stopped for speeding just hours before a crash that killed his 2-year-old daughter pleaded guilty to reckless homicide.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports a judge sentenced 27-year-old Curtis Gray McCraw Tuesday to a 10-year sentence, suspended upon the service of seven years and five years of probation.

Officials say McCraw's daughter, Sadie, was in a booster seat when he crashed last November. Solicitor Barry Barnette told Kelly that Sadie McCraw's skull was fractured in the crash, and she died from blunt force trauma.

Barnette says McCraw was driving at a high rate of speed when he ran off the road, struck a traffic sign and hit a tree. McCraw had been stopped earlier for driving 83 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.

Woman accused of impersonating law enforcement officer

WESTMINSTER, S.C. (AP) — Officers arrested a Westminster woman who was accused of telling a park ranger she was a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division employee.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reports 43-year-old Clara Irene Williams was involved in an altercation at Chau Ram County Park Friday. Oconee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Watt says when a park ranger attempted to intervene between Williams and a woman, Williams threatened to have the ranger arrested.

A warrant says Williams covered up her license plate as well.

Williams was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer. It is unclear if she has a lawyer.

Police: 2 teens found walking with stolen guns, ammo

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Officers arrested two teenagers after they say weapons were found on them while walking between two apartment complexes in Rock Hill.

The Rock Hill Herald reports the boys, ages 14 and 15, were arrested Friday night. York County deputies say the boys were dropped off by their parents at a pond to fish and instead broke into a home and stole multiple firearms, which they threw to the ground while officers pursued them.

Officials say the juveniles found a safe in a bedroom closet and took two .38-caliber revolvers, a .45-caliber pistol and two holsters.

The boys were each charged with carrying a pistol unlawfully and possession of a pistol under 18 years of age. The stolen property was returned to the home.
