South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers still are investigating the cause of the wreck that killed a Greendale Elementary student Wednesday morning in Beech Island.
Kyrie Henry, 4, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash between a bus and a tractor-trailer that collided on a sharp curve on Beech Island Avenue. The bus was carrying eight elementary school students.
The bus driver, 51-year-old Barbara Moore, and a student, whose name has not been released, were sent to the hospital.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said the school bus was traveling north on Beech Island Avenue Wednesday morning when it crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 1997 Freightliner Semi Truck.
Carlton said Thursday that Aiken County EMS verbally reported that the victim was not wearing a seat belt when they arrived on the scene.
Investigators are still working to find out what may have caused the bus to cross the center line, leading to the crash.
"As part of the SCHPS investigation, they will be obtaining her (Moore's) cellphone records," said Carlton. "I know there was video on the bus, so we will be getting that to see if it reveals anything."
When asked if Moore had been using the phone or possibly falling asleep, officials said they are continuing to investigate all possibilities.
There is still no word on the condition of the bus driver or the student who was hospitalized, according to Carlton and South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones.
