The HIC Warehouse Indoor Skateboard Park wants local skaters to pick up their boards and head to downtown Aiken on June 20 in support of National Go Skateboarding Day.
Because the national skate day lands on Father's Day, HIC Warehouse will hold its annual event and parade one day early.
National Go Skateboarding Day is a global event where skaters take part in parades and activities all for the awareness of skateboarding.
Skaters are asked to meet at noon at the former Aiken post office, now the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions headquarters, at the southwest corner of Park Avenue and Laurens Street.
Robin Mitchell, a manager at HIC Warehouse and mother of owner Bo Mitchell, said the parade, which will be escorted by the Aiken Department of Public Safety, will take skaters down one side of Laurens Street beginning at about 1 p.m. and then loop around down the other side.
"Last year, we had definitely more than 100 people show up of all ages," Mitchell said. "I think the youngest one was 7 years old, and the oldest was 42."
After the parade, skaters will head over to HIC Warehouse, 1120 Edgefield Highway, to take part in a best trick competition, eat some barbecue and hang out with Bo.
"If skaters missed the event last year, this is an opportunity to see that we have support from our local officers and support from our City by allowing us to do the parade," Mitchell said. "It's going to be free to skate all day just for that Saturday. It also shows everyone's love for skateboarding by skateboarding for National Go Skateboarding Day."
