Justice system
Our justice system needs an overhaul. Our jails are overflowing, killers are going free and the cost to the taxpayers is overburdening.
Southside support
Why are we still spending so much money on downtown and The Alley? The Southside is in dire need of help. How about the unique idea of having the Farmers Market on Thursdays in the Aiken Mall parking lot. We need to do something to support Southside businesses.
Supporting Aiken
I still see articles against the hospitality tax. I live outside of the city and pay nothing into providing a future for the city I utilize. This tax gives me the opportunity to support the city.
Priorities
I'm glad the Aiken Standard has their priorities right. They print an entire story about a horse, and not one word about the anniversary of D-Day and the brave men who fought and died there. Good job, Aiken Standard.
A new day
This past week, we held high school gradations. The door is open - now a new day starts. Make good choices, put yourself in the right direction, put your faith in the Lord, and he will guide you on your way through life.
Great changes
The City Council is going to vote on the greatest changes to Aiken's Historical District by changing their own restrictions about what is allowed to be built in our own town by approving changes in downtown Aiken with a parking garage and the height of buildings. They are ignoring their own laws as to what people living in the historical district can build on their own private property. I cannot believe that now homeowners can be told they can't build outbuildings, garages or tell people what colors they can paint their homes or whether they can build fences on their property. I cannot see where any court of law will uphold these restrictions placed on homeowners in Aiken's historical district. If Council approves these revisions, people should be able to paint their homes what color they want and build any type of buildings on their properties.
Saving money
I noticed that City Council voted to buy land for a Northside park. When are they going to quit spending our money and start saving our money? They should be selling parks, not buying them.
Right and wrong
I do not know who is right in the battle between County Council and the coroner. My only question is, how can Council propose to want jobs brought to Aiken County, yet they contract with a Lexington firm to save money. By paying a little more, the County uses a local firm and the money stays in the county.
