Off-duty Aiken County deputy arrested after deadly shooting

An Aiken County Sheriff's deputy has been terminated after a deadly shooting that occurred in North Augusta on Saturday evening.

Matthew Blakley was arrested Sunday morning and charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to a press release. He was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

Aiken officials: Hitchcock Parkway corridor improvements ready to be prioritized

Aiken City Council is reportedly ready to view and prioritize the projects that will be included in the Hitchcock Parkway corridor improvements project.

Last week, the City's Engineering and Utilities Director George Grinton told Council he met with S.C. Department of Transportation representatives, who said their engineers are ready to return to the project's design phase.

'It's freedom and sacrifice': Aiken scouts pay homage to fallen flags

BATH - David Lewis skillfully cut straight lines through an old, worn out American Flag, separating the red from the white.

After cutting out each of the 13 stripes and handing them off to members of Boy Scout Troop 351, Lewis took the remaining piece - the blue rectangle full of stars - marched over to a barrel of fire, and respectfully put the final piece of the flag to rest.
