Fire forces residents from Columbia assisted living home

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — More than 80 residents were forced from an assisted living complex in Columbia after a morning fire.

The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Forest Pines Retirement Residence.

Three people were taken to a hospital after the fire. There was no immediate word on their condition. Several other residents were taken to the hospital later as a precaution.

Other residents were taken to a city park building while the firefighters investigated the blaze. Officials think the fire started on the third floor, but the cause has not been determined.

Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says the fire caused about $1 million in damage.

21 hurt after bus hits car on US 501 in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say 21 people have been injured after a bus and car collided in Myrtle Beach.

Police said the wreck happened when the car was turning left and was hit by the bus on U.S. Highway 501 about a mile west of the beach around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Police Lt. Joey Crosby told media outlets he did not know the conditions of the injured people. Firefighters say one person had to be cut from the wreckage.

The crash remains under investigation.

Former Simpsonville police officer admits misconduct

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A former Simpsonville police officer has pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in office.

Multiple news outlets report Ralph Bobo agreed to permanently resign from law enforcement as part of a plea deal Tuesday.

In exchange for the guilty plea, a more serious charge of obstruction of justice against Bobo was dropped.

In 2013, Bobo was indicted on the obstruction charge in connection with the stabbing death of Cassandra Johnson in 1984. He was accused of disposing of physical evidence in that case.

Two weeks ago, the attorney general's office dismissed a different misconduct in office charge against Bobo and a former Simpsonville police chief.

Bobo and former police chief Charles Alan Reece were indicted in February 2014 on charges of misconduct involving an impounded motorcycle in 2007.
