An Aiken County Sheriff's Office employee has been terminated after a deadly shooting that occurred in North Augusta on Saturday evening.

Matthew Blakley was arrested Sunday morning and charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to a press release. He was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

Candace L. Blakley, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

The shooting incident occurred at 7:36 p.m. on the 1900 block of Coulter Avenue, according to reports.

North Augusta Public Safety called in the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division to handle the investigation.

"SLED was called in to investigate because the alleged perpetrator and the alleged witness are Aiken County Sheriff's deputies," Carlton stated in a press release.

Matthew Blakley was employed by the sheriff's office in November 2014 and was attending the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, according to a press release.

"This is a very unfortunate and tragic incident for both families involved," Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt stated in the release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them."

An autopsy is scheduled in Newberry today.
