Friends of the Edisto will hold its second Blackwater Summer Festival on Saturday, June 20, at the Aiken State Park.

This year, festivalgoers will be able to enjoy "educational critters" with Sean Poppy from the Savannah River Ecology Lab, a canoe and kayak trail along the South Fork Edisto River and hiking trails around the area.

Small snacks will be provided for breakfast, and barbecue will be served for lunch.

Attendees should bring a cooler and a picnic blanket for their families. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are allowed, according to the Friends' website.

Musical guests also will be in attendance.

Mountain Express Acoustic will take the stage at 10 a.m., Darren Woodlief of Pocket Buddha at 11 a.m., New Holland Road at 1 p.m. and the headliner, Danielle Howle, will go on at 2 p.m.

The event is free for Friends members. Non-members can make a $10 donation or become a member of the organization for $10 to attend the day's activities.

Registration will begin when the park opens at 9 a.m., and the festivities will begin at 10 a.m. The park charges $2 for parking.

Those who would like to camp at the park should call the Aiken State Park staff at 803-649-2857.
