An Aiken man is facing strong arm robbery charges after an incident at a store on Richland Avenue Tuesday.
Bernard Scrivens, 34, was arrested by Aiken Department of Public Safety officers after they responded to the scene at 11:30 p.m.
A female victim told officers a man walked past her car as she was getting ready to leave the store, according to reports.
The man grabbed her purse, and attempted to take it as soon as he got close enough to the victim, police said.
The woman said she screamed, and attempted to fight off the man, said police.
The purse strap broke during the fight. The man struck the woman in the face and began dragging her across the pavement, said police.
The man jumped into a Cadillac nearby and drove away, according to reports.
The suspect was later arrested and transported to the Aiken County detention center where he remained Wednesday.
