The deputy who reportedly witnessed a fatal Saturday shooting in North Augusta is on leave following the incident.
According to Aiken County Sheriff's Capt. Eric Abdullah, Aiken County Sheriff's deputy Matthew Murphy is on paid leave for personal time, and is expected to return to work Friday.
Murphy was present when another Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputy Matthew Blakley fatally shot his wife Candace, according to incident reports.
Blakley told police the shooting was an accident, and he was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Murphy told officers he attempted chest compressions on Candace, according to reports.
The victim was found in the bath tub of the Coulter Avenue home, and an M-4 rifle and a shell casing were found on the bathroom floor along with a broken wedding band, according to reports.
The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division still is investigating the case.
Blakley was employed by the Sheriff's Office in November 2014 and was attending the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, according to a press release.
