Old South
South Carolina is just like the old South back in the 60s. Racism is alive and well. Racism is taught, and it is not inherited.
Special session
The South Carolina Legislature accomplished virtually nothing in five months. Why on earth should the taxpayers pay them to go back for a special session? If they cannot produce any results in regular session, they should hold special session with absolutely no pay, no per diem and no mileage.
Turn signals
Could someone please explain to me why no one seems to be able to use their turn signals properly. You all do realize that they exist for a reason, right? Give 'em a try.
One percent
All you tax-and-spend 1 percent lovers, remember the Grand Canyon was created by an initial trickle of water that increased 1 percent at a time. Soon it becomes 2 percent, then 3 percent. Remember when Margaret Thatcher said the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people's money?
Spending money
If you are the one who is criticizing those who oppose the increased taxes, you must be a Democrat and believe government knows best how to spend your money better than you and that government has all the answers. Government creates problems. It doesn't solve them.
New equipment
The Aiken City Planning Commission recommendation going to the council to increase building height needs to contain a caveat that no new fire protection equipment or public safety equipment will be needed as a result of increasing the building height. This is to guarantee that there are no hidden provisions in this change to re-equip the fire department, public safety, etc. It needs to be in there or else the equipment that we will need should be identified.
Dropped wallet
In a careless oversight, I dropped and left my wallet at the BP Station on the corner of Pine Log and Banks Mill roads. Within a half-hour, a gentleman who lives near the trotting track called to say he had found it. He refused to take any money for his efforts. Thanks to a truly great Aikenite and representative of our wonderful area.
Beautiful flowers
We would like to thank the Aiken Horticultural department for the many beautiful flowers around town that beautify our lovely city.
