New Ellenton man charged with murdering wife
A man was charged with murder Friday after the fatal shooting of his wife in New Ellenton.
Edward Douglas Vaughn II, 38, of New Ellenton, was arrested and transported to the Aiken County detention center Thursday, where he remained Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, a warrant was obtained and Vaughn was charged with murder, said Aiken County Sheriff's Office Capt. Eric Abdullah.

Aiken vigil: 'Our enemy is not each other'
Outside the steps of Cumberland AME Church, for a brief moment during a vigil Saturday to remember the nine lives lost Wednesday in Charleston, it rained.
Braxtyn Meade, 5, leaned over to Lora Rhinehart, barely audible to the rest of the congregation and whispered, "Look, God's crying."
Meade and Rhinehart joined thousands of other South Carolina residents this weekend to offer prayer and pay their respects to the victims of the Wednesday Charleston shooting - Susie Jackson, Cynthia Hurd, DePayne Middleton-Doctor, the Rev. Sharonda Singleton, Ethel Lance, Tywanza Sanders, the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Myra Thompson and the Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr.

Brown spots: Aiken lawn damaged by Scotts defective product
Tom and Pat Thomas are just glad they didn't use Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed in their front yard.
But in the backyard, the product has damaged the couple's lawn, leaving brown spots in places that just a few months ago, looked just as plush and green as the front yard.
Scotts, a quality brand for lawn care products, is usually a little pricier, Tom said. But the couple found a great deal on the product in late March.
