An Aiken man is facing domestic violence charges after his girlfriend was reportedly assaulted Friday night.
Shawn McLaurin, 25, was arrested by Aiken County Sheriff's deputies after a dispute on Lake Shore Drive. McLaurin was transported to Aiken County detention center where he remained Sunday morning.
Deputies responded at 11:56 p.m. to the home where a woman told them her boyfriend had assaulted her during an argument. The woman said McLaurin pushed her down on the couch, and began hitting her, police said.
The victim's brother and a 4-year-old child told deputies they tried to defend the victim against McLaurin's attacks, according to reports.
Deputies interviewed McLaurin, and he said the woman started the fight by slapping him in the face, police said.
He later changed his story, and said the woman punched him in the face, according to reports. Deputies reported they were unable to confirm McLaurin's version of the story.
McLaurin told deputies he had a history of domestic violence before, according to reports.
